Police responded to a call about threats made against a woman at The Knights of Columbus, located on Willow Street, on Saturday, June 24, Westborough Police said on Facebook

Upon arrival, the woman said her ex-boyfriend threatened to hurt her while she was with her 4-year-old daughter. The woman also had a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, later identified as Carlos Garrastegui Rivera, according to police.

Officers then found Rivera inside a Honda Pilot close to where the woman was staying. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but Rivera kept driving and ultimately sparked a pursuit, police said.

The Honda was eventually found in a parking lot on East Main Street, but Rivera was not inside. A foot pursuit ensued and officers found Rivera in a thickly wooded area. A search of his car also uncovered a loaded shotgun, police said.

Rivera was charged with the following:

  • Violation of an Abuse Prevention Order (x3)
  • Threats to Commit a Crime – To Wit Murder
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Threats to Commit a Crime
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Resisting Arrest

More charges could result after the investigation is complete, police added.
